Former Tiger Mathis promoted The Texas Rangers purchased the contract of former University of Missouri pitcher Doug Mathis from Triple-A Oklahoma yesterday. Mathis, 24, had spent the entire season with Oklahoma, going 5-0 with a 3.55 ERA in seven games for the RedHawks. He held Pacific Coast League opponents to a .253 average with 10 walks and 30 strikeouts. He was the Rangers’ 13th-round selection in the 2005 draft. Prior to this season, he had just three games and two starts above the Double-A level. Cougars sign volleyball player The Columbia College volleyball team has signed Julie Teeple of Morgan County High School in Versailles. Teeple was an all-state volleyball and basketball player in high school. Teeple ranks first in her class with a 4.0 GPA.
