Centralia-area wreck kills two from Moberly
Published Saturday, May 10, 2008
Two Moberly women were killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision yesterday on Highway 22 near Centralia. The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the women as Aquilla Britt, 51, and Margaret Hutchings, 68. The collision occurred at about 3:15 p.m. about a half-mile east of Highway 151, where a westbound Ford F150 pickup driven by Jeffrey Schuermann, 49, of Ashland crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 1988 Volvo station wagon driven by Hutchings, the highway patrol said. Hutchings and Britt, her front-seat passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene, said Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp of the Boone County Fire Protection District. A passenger in the back seat, Melissa Blalock, 30, of Moberly, suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to University Hospital, Blomenkamp said. None of the women had been wearing seat belts, Blomenkamp said. Schuermann, who had been wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Indications are that both vehicles were traveling near the speed limit, which Blomenkamp said was 60 mph.
