Gertrude Niemeyer, 1908-2008

Gertrude Bernadine Niemeyer, 100, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at St. Clement Catholic Church with Father Wayne Boyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born April 28, 1908, in Tulsa, Okla., the daughter of Theodore A. and Julia S. Oberdahloff Korte. She married John Martin Niemeyer at St. Clement on April 30, 1935, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2001.

Survivors include eight children, Marcine Niemeyer and wife Elaine of Bowling Green, Denis Niemeyer of Bowling Green, Jeanette Marcus and husband Bill of Ellisville, Leanard Niemeyer and wife Lois of St. Peters, Eugene Niemeyer and wife Marie T. of Bowling Green, Joyce Bibb and husband Bonham of Bowling Green, Alice Shocklee and husband Phil of Columbia, and Ellen Sutter and husband Denis of Hallsville; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ted Korte and wife Loretta; two sisters, Leona Miller and Marcella Bunten; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Korte and Clara Ann Niemeyer.

She is preceded in death by an infant daughter; one sister, Otillia Deters; two brothers, Arthur and Edward Korte; six brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law.

She was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church, where she was active in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, the quilters club and the ladies sodality. She was a member and leader in the local 4-H. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed reading, doing word searches and making her famous "Grandma Cookies" - the recipe has been passed down through the family. She also looked forward to going to her grandchildren’s ballgames.

All grandchildren will be participating in the funeral Mass as well as serving as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the St. Clement Cemetery Association, American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice.
