THE TRIBUNE'S VIEW
Airline service
Air Midwest has given up the ghost at Columbia Regional Airport. The federally subsidized carrier can’t make money flying between Columbia and Kansas City, so it has notified the U.S. Department of Transportation it will discontinue service. Levy a small price to improve schools, city
Editor, the Tribune: I am curious to know why my fellow voters are so concerned about a 54-cent tax levy for education. If memory serves, there was no finger-pointing, "they did this wrong," "they can’t be trusted" type of debate when a new prison or jail needed to be built. Maybe the administrators of Columbia Public Schools need to learn about finances a bit, maybe the school board needs some PR work, but when the dust settles, what’s really at stake is our children. So you live in a $100,000 house - that should raise your property tax about 12 bucks a month. I would suggest not buying a latte for a couple of days, and it’ll be covered.

McCain’s bill comes back to bite him
By BILL O’REILLY
John McCain must be wondering where it all went wrong. Way back in 2001, the senator joined with ultra-liberal Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin in championing "The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act," which was supposed to get the fat cats out of the election process. President George W. Bush signed the legislation into law, and it has become forever known as the "McCain-Feingold Act."
