OPEN COLUMN
Cost of Iraq war will be burden for years
Published Sunday, March 23, 2008
Editor, the Tribune: Your editorial page in the March 9 Tribune is of "front-page" importance and quality, including the Open Column letters from Louis Anesi, Claire Garden and R. Thomas Epps. The result of our deficit spending on the Iraq war is of little benefit to us, and it will be like "a millstone around our neck" - rather, around the necks of our children and grandchildren. Totally irresponsible and terribly unfair! The result of the meltdown of the real estate market is also terrible, but it is only peanuts compared to the wasteful spending of our government in this decade and probably also the next. So much good would have come from spending just 10 percent of that on education, job training, health care and securing our southern border. The tribute to our Rock Bridge High School Lady Bruins deserves being on the front page also - aren’t they great!
