Ring your neck
Be bold with jewelry to make a summer statement.
Published Sunday, June 29, 2008
This summer, bigger is better. No matter what your statement is, a statement necklace is a sure-fire way to get the point across. Whether you have classic tastes or veer to the eclectic, this is one trend with something for everyone. As with anything, the key to success is moderation. Just because you see matching earrings and bracelets in the same display case doesn’t mean you should buy them as a set. Instead, think of those sets as different interpretations of the same style and pick one. You wouldn’t buy a hot pink crewneck, v-neck and cardigan sweater from the same line all in one go, would you? Consider, too, the effect the necklace will have on the whole outfit. Bold prints might not be the best match for a multi-layered, brightly colored necklace. Instead, use strong pieces as a way to punch up a potentially bland ensemble. Candace Bergen’s character on “Boston Legal” gets it right in every episode, pairing crisp, collared shirts and suits with ropes of beads and pearls. Her look conveys confidence and cosmopolitan. To make it work for you, try a plain crewneck and let a collar necklace define the neckline. For an evening look, try a long chain with a great pendant backward and pair it with a low-backed top.
