Four firetrucks and about 15 firefighters were dispatched at about 7:25 p.m. and extinguished the fire, which was threatening owner Juanita Bennett’s home and the Hartsburg Inn bed-and-breakfast next door.

Inn owner Catherine Sherrer called 911 after her dog, Izzy, right, alerted her to the fire by growling. “The dog saved the day,” Sherrer said. “She smelled the smoke.”
