Every year at the end of May, friends of the Voluntary Action Center gather to recognize outstanding individuals for their community service, enjoy dinner and cocktails, and bid on super auction items to support VAC’s programs and services.

On May 28, almost 200 people gathered at the Club at Old Hawthorne for the seventh annual “Spring into Action” schmoozfest. With Roger Wilson as master of ceremonies, awards were presented to Susan Gowin, Dan Scotten, Dan Schuppan and Billy Sapp. Auctioneers Larry and Terri Atterberry hyped up the crowd, which included Richard and Wendy Libby, Chancellor Brady and Anne Deaton, Judge Deborah Daniels, County Commissioner Karen Miller, Darlene Johnson, Scott and Teresa Maledy, and many friends of the honorees and VAC.

With such beautiful weather and surroundings, the dining room emptied out when everyone chose to enjoy Old Hawthorne’s patio while they ate, mingled and watched a picturesque sunset right behind presenters Sabrina McDonnell, Cindy Mustard, Jolene Schultz, Bo Fraser, Don Stamper and Bob Pugh.

Besides being a good time, it was an evening of good will generating more than $23,000 for VAC, where it will be put to good use helping people and programs in our community.
