Columbia couple hurt in motorcycle wreck
Published Wednesday, June 18, 2008
A Columbia man was in critical condition this morning after he and his wife were thrown from a motorcycle yesterday in Iron County in southeast Missouri. Gary Blackwell, 67, and Fay Blackwell, 59, were traveling southbound on Highway 49 near Annapolis yesterday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. At about 2:55 p.m., the 2007 Yamaha slid off the right side of the road and struck a pole, the patrol said, and both Gary Blackwell and Fay Blackwell were thrown from the motorcycle. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the Blackwells were airlifted to St. John’s Mercy Hospital. The highway patrol reported that the two suffered moderate injuries. Fay Blackwell was listed in satisfactory condition this morning.
