Kanuckel leads Kewpies to win against Holt

Greg Kanuckel allowed one run on five hits and struck out five to lead the Hickman baseball team past Holt 4-1 last night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon.

Justin Jones and Taylor Steuber each went 2 for 3, and Drew Mitrisin had two RBI.

"Kanuckel had pinpoint control and was outstanding tonight," Hickman Coach Dave Wilson said. "It was just a good team win."

Hickman (11-9) meets crosstown rival Rock Bridge at 7 tonight on Simmons Field.

Salisbury 5, Hallsville 1: Four unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning were enough to bury the Indians.

Hallsville (7-6) got its only run on Tony McGee’s first career home run in the sixth inning. Andy Hight took the loss, giving up seven hits in five innings. He allowed one earned run and fanned three.

Salisbury got two singles in the second before an error by Hallsville. Hight walked in a run and Salisbury (9-3) followed with a two-run single. The Indians committed one more error in the inning to plate another run.
