Hunter, Hunt pace Bruins swimmers

The Hickman and Rock Bridge girls swim teams outscored Marshfied, Ozark and Parkview but failed to top Glendale during a multiple dual meet yesterday in Springfield.

Leah Hunter and Kate Hunt won individual events for Rock Bridge, while Hickman’s Nathalia Mello won the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 2.40 seconds and was second in the 200 individual medley (2:18.05).

Hunter won the 100 freestyle (56.47), and Hunt claimed the 100 backstroke (1:06.23). The two Bruins were also on the second-place 400 free relay (1:44.77) that included Katy Coleman and Corey Murphey.

Hunt added a third-place medal in the 200 individual medley (2:22.02), and Murphey picked up second-place showings in the 500 (5:28.12) and 200 freestyles (2:04.89).

Hickman diver Lindsay Oncken placed third with a score of 205.45.

Boys basketball

Helias 44, Fulton 43: Gabe Jones’ 21 points were not enough for the Hornets (7-9) to knock off the eighth-ranked team in Class 5. Jake Vislay led Helias (14-0) with 19 points.

Southern Boone 68, Fatima 51: In Ashland, Zac Flanders paced the Eagles (10-5) with 27 points, while Matt Curtis added 15.

Monroe City 67, North Callaway 36: Paul Hancock scored 22 points to help the Panthers drop the Thunderbirds to 1-14. Monroe City (8-8) forced 25 turnovers.

Kirksville 77, Mexico 51: Stephen Thoenen led all scorers with 21 points but couldn’t keep the Bulldogs (1-12, 0-7) from dropping a North Central Missouri Conference game at home.

Girls basketball

Mexico 56, Kirksville 44: In Mexico, Rachel Baker scored 28 points and pulled down 21 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (8-10) to a NCMC win.

South Shelby 60, Centralia 48: Shelly Rosenfelder scored a game-high 17 points in a Clarence Cannon Conference road loss. Mallory Henry added 14 points for the Panthers (8-10).

Harrisburg 42, Westran 40: The Bulldogs outscored Westran 16-3 in the fourth quarter to upset the No. 1 ranked Hornets in the Sturgeon Tournament championship game. Erica Akins led Harrisburg (14-2).

Fayette 50, Slater 42: Tori Eaton scored 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to complete Fayette’s comeback win at Slater.
