Cash stolen from Columbia business

Columbia police are investigating a report of an armed robbery yesterday at Cash Zone in south Columbia. Officers responded at 11:10 a.m. after a Cash Zone employee reported a man had entered the business at 1305 Grindstone Parkway, displayed a chrome handgun and demanded all the money in the cash drawer. He then directed the victim into the back restroom before fleeing the scene. The amount stolen from register was not disclosed. According to a statement released by the Columbia Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, the suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds and speaking with a strong Southern accent. The suspect was also described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a scarf covering the lower part of his face. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 875-8477. Those with information may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of as much as $1,500 if information leads to an arrest.
