Police investigate Columbia shooting
Published Wednesday, December 26, 2007
Police are investigating a Christmas Eve shooting that occurred during a fight outside a residence in central Columbia. Officers were dispatched at about 8:20 p.m. Monday to 1007 Wilkes Blvd. to reports of one shot being fired, police said. No injuries were reported to police. Witnesses told police that a black man was being assaulted by three other black males in the front yard of the residence, and a newer model white four-door vehicle was parked out front. As the men were fighting, a suspect fired one shot, police said. The fight stopped, and the suspects left in the white vehicle, police said. The other man was seen running from the area. Officers found a shell casing in the street, police said. The alleged shooter is described as a black male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect was described as wearing a black Carhartt jacket and having a medium afro. The other suspect was wearing a gray and white "Southpole" sweatshirt and black baseball hat. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 875-8477.
