Crayton returns home after stay in hospital
Published Sunday, December 23, 2007
First Ward Councilwoman Almeta Crayton, 48, returned home Friday after being released from Boone Hospital Center, where she said she was treated for kidney problems.
Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman said at a Monday Columbia City Council meeting that Crayton was hospitalized earlier that day. "I’m trying to get myself together," Crayton said yesterday in a phone interview. Crayton has served on the city council since her election in 1999. Her current term ends April, and she is running for re-election. While Crayton has been recuperating, she said, friends have brought her groceries. "They’re helping me out," she said. "These are people that know that me and my son are by ourselves." Crayton said she will be returning to work on Jan. 3 as a cafeteria aide for Columbia Public Schools. She also works at the Successful Neighborhood Resource Center, 212 Lincoln Drive, for the Boone County Community Partnership.
