In the newest assault on Columbia’s ban on smoking in public places, the Boone Liberty Coalition has sent a letter asking the Columbia City Council to repeal the ban in favor of a smoker-friendly ordinance.

Fed economist defends his research
Since a report released Dec. 11 by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis said that Columbia’s smoking ban caused a 5 percent decline in dining establishments’ sales tax revenues, people have raised questions about whether the analysis was affected by researcher Michael Pakko’s political persuasion.

East Columbia road plan gets federal money
Congress this week approved a spending package that will provide $249,000 in federal earmarked funds to acquire right of way and design the future Stadium Boulevard extension, according to a city of Columbia news release that credits U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia, for securing the funds.
