East Columbia road plan gets federal money

Congress this week approved a spending package that will provide $249,000 in federal earmarked funds to acquire right of way and design the future Stadium Boulevard extension, according to a city of Columbia news release that credits U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia, for securing the funds.

Although the future path of the extension has not been decided, the money will provide funding for the next step of a project that will extend Stadium Boulevard to Interstate 70. The plan to extend Stadium has been on the city’s master road plan since 1970.

The city, Boone County and the Missouri Department of Transportation are working on an "environmental impact study" for east Columbia to gather public comment and data to determine the best option for road expansion in the area. This study is important to secure more federal funding for the project.
