Harry leads Rock Bridge at tournament

Katherine Harry must like the beach.

Led by Harry’s 17 points and 23 rebounds in 24 minutes, the Rock Bridge girls basketball team opened the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational with a 65-46 win over Bishop O’Connell last night in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The overpowering performance by Rock Bridge’s 6-foot-3 junior helped the Bruins (7-2) outscore the Arlington, Va., squad 38-16 in the paint. Rock Bridge also owned a 46-30 rebounding advantage over Bishop O’Connell (3-6), although no other Bruin collected more than four rebounds.

Forward Kelsie Shearrer scored 12 points for Rock Bridge, which was ranked ninth in the initial Class 5 poll released today. Sophomore guard Amaya Williams added 10 points, and Claire Schaeperkotter totaled seven points and seven assists.

After a day off, Rock Bridge continues play in the 16-team tournament tomorrow against Myrtle Beach. The Seahawks (9-0) trounced Winder Barrow, Ga., 67-29 in their tournament opener.

Centralia 54, Harrisburg 46: Felicia McCann erupted for 24 points to lead the Panthers to a road victory.

Kerry Hockman and Sierra Angell both totaled eight points, and Erin Van Maanen and Jordyn Tolliver each scored seven to complete Centralia’s scoring. The Panthers led 14-6 after one quarter, 20-15 at halftime and outscored Harrisburg (1-5) in each of the final two quarters.

Ashley Fisher led the Bulldogs with 19 points.

Boys basketball

Rock Bridge 60, Hannibal 36: The Bruins jumped to a 36-14 halftime lead and cruised to a comfortable road victory.

Jordan Dressler led Rock Bridge (6-0) with 22 points and eight rebounds, and Ricky Kreklow drained three 3-pointers to help him score 13 points. Mike Petrik added five points, five assists, five rebounds and five steals for the Bruins, who are ranked seventh in Class 5.

Robert Mosley scored 16 points for Hannibal.

Douglass 82, Jamestown 23: Cameron Smith totaled 17 points and 11 steals in an easy road victory.

Landon Boone led Douglass (4-2) with 21 points. Brandon Gleason added 12 points, Keondre Carthron eight and Tanner Cassil seven. Three other Bulldogs totaled 11 points.

Jamestown trailed 29-6 after one quarter and 43-8 at halftime. Andy Flippin led the Eagles with eight points.

Harrisburg 66, Centralia 47: Harrisburg led 45-39 at the start of the fourth quarter and pulled away with free throws to improve to 5-1.

Harrisburg’s Cory Via produced a game-high 28 points and also pulled down seven rebounds. Taylor Perrigo pitched in 13 points, and Mason Hardin added 10 points and nine rebounds. The Bulldogs are ranked fourth in Class 2.

Derek Parnell led Centralia (5-1) with 14 points.

Moberly 68, Mexico 37: Brennen Hughes scored 16 points as the Spartans improved to 2-0 in North Central Missouri Conference play and 5-0 overall.

Brett Boyer added 11 points for Moberly.

California 58, North Callaway 50: The Thunderbirds led by as many as 12 in the third quarter and had a six-point lead going into the fourth, but the Pintos took their first lead at 46-45 with 3:50 remaining in the game and continued to pull away.

Adam Chesser went 13 of 14 from the free-throw line for California (5-2) to lead all scorers with 23 points. Justin Byrd added 13 points for the Pintos.

Jonah Wilson led North Callaway (0-7) with 14 points, and Jake Lasley pulled down 12 rebounds.
