Peaceworks marks bombings’ anniversary
Published Saturday, August 4, 2007
Mid-Missouri Peaceworks will commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings during a community event tomorrow evening. A potluck picnic begins at 6 p.m. at the Gordon Shelter at Stephens Lake Park. Music will be provided by James Kamp, Noah Earle and Divine Rhythm. At 8 p.m., speakers Bill Wickersham, Mark Robertson and Steven Starr will discuss the state of nuclear arms threats. A lantern float will begin at 9 p.m. The free event is open to the public and will be held rain or shine. Peaceworks has commemorated the 1945 bombings for the past 21 years as a way to remember the lives lost and to demonstrate opposition to current nuclear weapons policies.
