More area firefighters join fire crews in West

Two Boone County firefighters have been deployed to Oregon to fight wildfires for the next two weeks.

Lt. Chris Roberts and firefighter David Davenport were scheduled to leave Boone County yesterday to fight the Battle Creek Complex fire in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest 28 miles northeast of Enterprise, Ore., the Boone County Fire Protection District said in a news release.

Roberts and Davenport are expected to be deployed for 16 days.

The fire is one of the largest in the country, encompassing about 75,000 acres, the news release said.

The fire district has sent eight firefighters to wildland fires this year. Five fought fires in Idaho, and another is in Montana, the news release said.
