It sure wasn’t a case of puppy love

ST. PETERS (AP) - A Wentzville woman repeatedly hit a dog breeder on the head with a dead Chihuahua puppy because she was upset the dog had died, authorities said.

The name of the 33-year-old woman was not released because charges have not been filed. She told police she had taken the puppy to a veterinarian, who said it was only 4 weeks old and needed to be returned to its mother. But before she could return the puppy, it died.

The woman went to the breeder’s home in St. Peters about 5:45 a.m. yesterday, police said. After pushing her way in, she allegedly began fighting the breeder and pulling her hair as she tried to make her way to the basement to get another puppy.

The breeder wrestled the woman out of her house to the front porch, where the woman hit the breeder over the head numerous times with the dead puppy, police told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

As she pulled away, the woman waved the dead puppy out of the car’s sunroof and yelled threats at the breeder, police said. She later called the breeder and threatened her and her family, according to court records.

Police said they are applying for felony burglary charges against the dog owner for entering the home, and misdemeanor assault charges.
