Daniels has temperance, experience for the bench
Published Thursday, June 8, 2006
Editor, the Tribune: Deborah Daniels is the person best qualified for the associate judge position for which she is running. My family moved to Columbia in 1957. As a trial lawyer for 28 years in California and Missouri (now retired), I believe I have the background and experience to evaluate judicial candidates, particularly because I won’t be appearing before them. Daniels has a wealth of legal experience from her many years with the offices of the Boone County prosecutor and Missouri attorney general. Her record can be reviewed, and I have done so. That record reflects praise from peers, law professors, judges and even adversaries. She has been an effective advocate and winner throughout her career. Perhaps her most important qualification is that she has a judicial temperament. That means she will apply the law fairly and temper her personal beliefs when necessary to do that. She will display the empathy of a parent. She is driven by no personal agenda beyond a fair application of the law. The religious, nonreligious, wealthy and poor will receive equal treatment from her. What more can we hope for or expect from a judge? I urge a vote for her in both the primary and general elections.
