One-year-old dies after KC suspect shoots at vehicle
Published Monday, June 5, 2006
KANSAS CITY (AP) - Police were searching today for a gunman who fired into a crowded car the day before, killing a 1-year-old girl and injuring two other children. The other children, a 4-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl, were taken to area hospitals in serious condition, Kansas City police said. Eight people, including four adults and four children, were riding in the car yesterday. Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said the adults had gone to confront the boyfriend of one of the women after he allegedly hit her the night before. The woman’s brother, who is the children’s father, warned the man to leave her alone. But the boyfriend and two others followed the group in a maroon GMC Yukon SUV and fired four shots at the car with a high-powered weapon, Snapp said. The driver, who wasn’t hurt in the shooting, drove to an apartment, and someone called police. Police said the eight passengers had all moved to Kansas City after Hurricane Katrina forced them from their homes in New Orleans. The suspected shooter also is from New Orleans, police said, and the mother of the children is in Texas. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
