School’s out and the weather’s warming up. For a lot of families, that means one thing: It’s time for a swim. Starting this weekend, all of Columbia’s public swimming facilities will be open for the season. Private swimming clubs also have been opening their doors over the past week, giving pool fans options all around the city. Beach lovers, aspiring divers and shallow waders should all be able to find their match. Learning to swim Many private clubs in Columbia offer swimming lessons or swim teams. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department also gives lessons at the pools at the Activity & Recreation Center and Hickman High School. Water aerobics classes also are available. For more information on lessons, go to www.gocolumbiamo.com or call the clubs listed at right. Not just for kids If you’re a grown-up looking to sweat off a few pounds this summer, swimming pools are a place to beat the heat while burning calories. Check out the burn from these pool and beach exercises.
