It’s long past time for Bush to meet with North Korea
Published Tuesday, July 11, 2006
Editor, the Tribune: How long has Mr. North Korea been asking for talks with Mr. USA? Ever since today’s Mr. USA became president. I believe we had some sort of agreement during the Clinton years, but today’s Mr. USA canceled it - and then accused Mr. North Korea of not keeping the Clinton bargain! So it has indeed been several years, and still Mr. USA hasn’t the good manners to meet with Mr. North Korea. How can this be? Courtesy is never "out of line." Rudeness is. Surely Mr. USA is aware of this and aware also that the longer he waits, the more difficult things become. He needs to be prodded - the sooner the better. And he needs to realize just what "diplomacy" is.
