Local Sports Stories
One last look at 2006
Story by Tribune sports editor JOE WALLJASPER
What could possibly go wrong when a radio color commentator is sent to remind a struggling coach that it might be the right time to resign? As it turned out, plenty.

Southern comfort
By STEVE WALENTIK of the Tribune’s staff
Maybe the fans were as starved to watch a game as the Missouri basketball team was to play one, because a season-high crowd of 9,091 filed into Mizzou Arena yesterday evening for a rare 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Southern, a team that had won only once this season.

Offense provides silver lining behind loss
By DAVE MATTER of the Tribune’s staff

Missouri wrestlers capture Scuffle title
By the Tribune’s staff
Missouri wrestler Ben Askren pinned three opponents and brother Max Askren added two falls to earn first-place finishes and lead the Tigers to the Southern Scuffle title yesterday in Greensboro, N.C.

AREA SCENE

Missouri forward Leo Lyons is hounded by Southern’s Geri Guillory yesterday evening at Mizzou Arena. The Jaguars didn’t do much to contain the Tigers, who scored 54 points in the second half to pull away for an 87-58 victory in front of a season-high 9,091 spectators.
